OUR PROGRAMMES · ADULT ADDICTION RECOVERY
Looking Beyond Addiction to Understand What's Driving It
Shamar Addiction Recovery supports adults experiencing substance dependence, compulsive disorders, behavioural addictions such as gambling, digital and pornography addiction, as well as eating disorders. Our approach looks beyond the addictive behaviour to consider the underlying difficulties that may be contributing to it.
ADULT ADDICTION RECOVERY
Addiction May Be Part of a Bigger Story
Shamar approaches addiction as more than the behaviour visible on the surface. Addiction may be a symptom of a larger difficulty and, for some people, can become an attempt to self-medicate what they are experiencing.
This means addressing the addiction itself is only part of the healing process.
Shamar Addiction Recovery provides support in a safe and warm environment of mutual understanding, helping participants begin addressing their addiction, reconcile with the past and move towards the future.

OUR APPROACH
Looking Beyond the Addiction
See the Bigger Picture
Addiction is approached as a possible symptom of a larger difficulty rather than automatically being treated as the root problem.
Understand What's Beneath It
Recognise that addictive behaviour may become a way of attempting to cope or self-medicate.
Address More Than the Behaviour
Treating the addiction itself is considered only one part of the wider healing process.
Mutual Understanding
The programme provides a safe and warm environment where participants can be supported by people who understand the realities of addiction.

Support From People Who Understand the Journey
An important part of Shamar's addiction recovery philosophy is mutual understanding. Members of the recovery team bring lived experience of addiction, allowing participants to be supported by people who understand aspects of the journey from personal experience.
This creates a warm and supportive environment focused on helping people get their lives back on track, reconcile with the past and embrace the future.
