OUR PROGRAMMES · TEENAGE ADDICTION RECOVERY
Helping Teens Understand What Lies Behind Addiction
A recovery programme for teenagers aged 12 to 17 experiencing substance dependence, compulsive behaviours, behavioural disorders, digital addiction, pornography addiction, eating disorders or self-harm, with a focus on looking beyond the behaviour to understand the underlying difficulties that may be contributing to it.
Looking Beyond the Behaviour
Addiction and harmful behaviours can be complex. Shamar's approach recognises that the addictive behaviour itself may be part of a larger difficulty, including an attempt to cope with or self-medicate what a young person is experiencing.
Teenage Addiction Recovery therefore looks beyond the immediate behaviour. The programme adapts Shamar's addiction recovery framework for teenagers, providing support within an approach designed around the needs of young people.

OUR APPROACH
Understanding the Person Behind the Behaviour
Shamar's addiction recovery philosophy looks beyond the addictive or harmful behaviour itself to consider what may be happening beneath it.
Look Beyond the Behaviour
Addiction is approached as more than simply the behaviour that can be seen on the surface.
Understand What's Driving It
Explore the possibility that addictive or harmful behaviours may be connected to broader difficulties in a teenager's life.
Address More Than the Addiction
The programme recognises that treating the addictive behaviour is only one part of the wider healing process.

Shamar's addiction recovery framework is adapted in content and process specifically for teenagers.

Addiction May Be Part of a Bigger Story
Shamar's approach is based on the understanding that addiction may be a symptom of a larger difficulty rather than the root problem itself.
For some people, addictive behaviour may become a way of attempting to cope or self-medicate. Focusing only on stopping the behaviour may therefore address only part of what is happening.
The Teenage Addiction Recovery programme uses this broader recovery philosophy in an approach adapted specifically for teenagers.
