Frequently Asked Questions
Does submitting an enquiry confirm admission?
No. Submitting an enquiry begins the admissions process only. Every admission remains subject to clinical assessment, suitability, bed availability, required documentation, and funding confirmation.
Can I submit an enquiry without all my documents?
Yes. You can still submit your enquiry if you don't have everything yet. Our admissions team will guide you on any additional documents required.
Will Shamar assist with medical aid authorisation?
Our admissions team will guide you through the medical aid authorisation process, though authorisation is subject to your scheme's rules and does not guarantee full cover of every service or practitioner fee.
Can a family member complete the enquiry?
Yes. A family member or contact person may complete the enquiry on behalf of the patient, with the relevant contact and consent details provided.
How do I know if admission is appropriate?
This is determined during the clinical assessment stage, where our team reviews whether admission is appropriate, whether Shamar is suitable, and which programme best fits the clinical needs.
What happens after my enquiry?
A member of our admissions team will make initial contact to confirm your information, discuss clinical needs, explain funding, and arrange the clinical assessment.
Immediate Help Required?
If you or the patient is:
• In immediate danger
• At immediate risk of harming themselves
• Unable to be transported safely
• Experiencing a medical emergency
• At immediate risk of harming another person
Please contact emergency medical services or proceed to the nearest hospital emergency department immediately.
Do not rely solely on the online enquiry form during an emergency.
