We’re excited to share with you the most beneficial approach to mental health treatment based on outcomes-based research. It’s become clear that the best way to support patients is through a preventative and holistic approach, provided by a multi-disciplinary team that addresses various aspects of their well-being. We believe in integrating your faith beliefs and practices because we understand how greatly they impact your life and worldview.

We’ve observed that when mental health professionals don’t adopt this framework, patients may experience healing without truly reaching wholeness. That’s why Dr. Wendy Greyvensteyn, a clinical psychologist, and Jan Greyvensteyn, an addiction recovery coach, life-coach and mental-health coach, have dedicated themselves to a holistic model of treatment. They share a vision of wellness-oriented services and recognise the urgent need for resources to treat mental health in South Africa.

To facilitate this integrative healing, we’ve identified the evidence-based biopsychosocial-spiritual framework as a highly effective treatment modality. This approach addresses all aspects of a person’s recovery: physical health, psychological well-being, social functioning, and spiritual wellness. It involves a collaboration between professionals who genuinely care about your holistic well-being, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, general practitioners, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, counsellors, life and addiction recovery coaches, speech therapists, dieticians, and nurses.

Shamar Clinic is proud to offer access to this diverse team of medical practitioners and a comprehensive holistic treatment programme. It’s important to note that not all mental health treatment programmes fully integrate the spiritual dimension, but we do.

Based on international research and industry trends, we’ve learned that some patients may benefit from a day psychiatric programme rather than an in-patient treatment programme. That’s why we offer both in-patient and out-patient treatment modalities at Shamar Clinic. Additionally, we understand the unique needs of teenagers, which is why we’ve established an outpatient adolescent unit separate from the Adults. We are bound by our ethos and principles to providing holistic health, healing, and wholeness to young individuals who are facing unprecedented challenges and need support.

The Shamar Clinic vision extends well beyond our doors. We believe in reaching out to individuals in disadvantaged communities who struggle to access mental health care services. To make this possible, we’ve registered a non-profit company (NPC), Phodiso House, that helps fund mental health care and rehabilitation for those in need.

We’re here to support you on your journey to mental well-being. Together, we can embrace a holistic approach and discover the path to healing and wholeness.
