Our Framework, Approach and What Makes Us Different!
We invite you to meet our incredible team at Shamar Clinic! We have a diverse group of experts who are here to support you on your journey to healing. Our team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, counsellors, life and addiction recovery coaches, speech therapists, general medical practitioners, dieticians, and nurses. That’s quite a lineup!
Why did we choose this multi-disciplinary approach? We’ve witnessed remarkable progress in our patients recovery and healing processes when we work together as a team. There have been countless cases where our patients have shown significant improvements in their functioning, thanks to our collaborative efforts. This multi-disciplinary framework is the gold standard for providing excellent patient care.
However, we’ve noticed that the spiritual element of mental health treatment often gets overlooked or treated as an afterthought. As a team, we’re dedicated to changing this. We believe in a truly holistic approach to healing—one that encompasses all aspects of your well-being, including the spiritual dimension.
Our treatment model at Shamar Clinic embraces the biopsychosocial-spiritual framework for healthcare. Not every clinic takes this comprehensive approach, and that’s because many mainstream psychology and psychiatry fields tend to be more secularised and Westernised. They often overlook the cultural and spiritual aspects of treatment.
In psychology, diagnoses and treatment models are predominantly focused on the biological and psychological aspects, with little consideration for how symptoms intersect with a patient’s faith beliefs or practices. While there is some growing recognition of spirituality within the academic field, the responses are mixed. Sometimes, spirituality is acknowledged and incorporated into treatment protocols, or patients have the option to consult with a spiritually oriented counsellor.
However, spirituality is often met with neutrality, apathy, or even disapproval. Despite these responses, there is an abundance of evidence-based research—both nationally and internationally—that highlights the effectiveness of treatment protocols that intentionally integrate a patient’s faith. The evidence is clear: incorporating spirituality is not only important but absolutely necessary for comprehensive and successful treatment.
At Shamar Clinic, we take this research seriously. We believe in the power of a truly holistic approach that recognises and integrates spirituality as an essential component of mental health care. Our goal is to provide you with the most effective, evidence-based treatment that takes into account your entire being—mind, body, and spirit.
